Historical Artifact – Washington Bicentennial Issue
Part of the Fredericksburg Masonic Heritage Collection
Issued in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, this bronze medal represents an important historical artifact honoring Washington’s dual legacy as President of the United States and as a Freemason.
The reverse records two significant moments in his Masonic life: his initiation at Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 on November 4, 1752, and his appointment as the first Master of Alexandria Lodge No. 22 on April 28, 1788.
Struck in solid bronze by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts, this 1½-inch medal reflects the reverence held for Washington within American Freemasonry during the Bicentennial era.
Why This Medal Is Significant
Unlike many Washington commemoratives, this piece specifically records his initiation at Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4. Few historic medals directly reference this foundational moment in American Masonic history.
A limited number are being released from our collection at this time.
